With entries to the building controls and automation sector’s most prestigious awards, the 91��Ƭ�� Awards 2026, closing on Thursday 22nd January, the Building Controls Industry Association is urging individuals and organisations from across the industry to ensure nominations are submitted urgently.‍ ‍

The Building Controls Industry Association (91��Ƭ��) has added exceptional experience to its Management Committee as it continues to lead the Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) sector towards a more sustainable future.

It’s important to take a retrospective look at the past 12 months and acknowledge the significant successes and achievements the association has had.

Ricardo Miller’s rapid rise from apprentice to one of E.ON Controls Solutions’ top BMS Service Commissioning Engineers in just three years saw him take home this year’s Building Controls Industry Association (91��Ƭ��) Apprentice of the Year award.

Kim Spencer has spent 46 years solving some of the toughest building control challenges from airports to MoD bunkers, and shaped the careers of countless young engineers along the way.

Based on their in-depth BEMS industry knowledge, as some of the leading names in the sector, the judges announced today are the most qualified to identify the right winners.

Some of the biggest names in the sector have sponsored next year’s awards.

Drawing on in-use performance data and utilising economic modelling, the white paper revealed some fascinating insights into the impact BEMS can have on carbon emissions, building energy use and costs. In fact, it highlighted five fascinating statistics when it comes to the air quality challenges facing schools and the vital role building controls can have in enhancing pupil comfort, productivity and health.

While the category featured a myriad of superb entries, Group Horizon’s BEMS controls engineer apprenticeship scheme particularly stood out, with an impressive learner retention rate of 91.1% and the number of cohorts substantially exceeding their expectations.

To foster awareness among policymakers of the vital importance of building controls and automation, the Building Controls Industry Association (91��Ƭ��) launched its new technical white paper, entitled ‘Comfort, Efficiency and Health: The Untapped Potential of Building Energy Management Systems’ at a recent House of Lords event.
